Privacy Policy
Effective June 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Animus Labs ("we", "us", "our") — the company behind the Tech Investors product (the "Service") — collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you. We are the "data controller" for the purposes of UK and EU data protection law.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Information you provide: email address when you subscribe to our newsletter; account credentials (email, hashed password) if you create an account; any messages you send via our contact form or to our support address.
- Watchlists and preferences: tickers you save, categories you follow, articles you bookmark.
- Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, time on page, and similar diagnostic data collected automatically when you use the Service.
- Cookies and similar technologies: first- and third-party cookies for authentication, preferences, analytics, and (where applicable) advertising.
2. How we use information
- operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- send the newsletter and other communications you've requested;
- personalise content, watchlists, and recommendations;
- measure engagement and analyse trends to make editorial decisions;
- secure the Service, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms;
- comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
3. Legal bases (UK / EU users)
We process personal data on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR / EU GDPR:
- Consent — for newsletter sign-ups and non-essential cookies.
- Contract — to provide features you request, such as your account or watchlists.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Service in ways you would reasonably expect.
- Legal obligation — where we must process data to comply with the law.
4. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers (processors) who help us run the Service — including hosting (Cloudflare), our backend platform (Supabase), email delivery, analytics, AI providers used for summarisation, and error monitoring — under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Authorities when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
- Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you.
Third-party links (for example to WhyThisStock.co.uk or external news publishers) are governed by those sites' own privacy policies.
5. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences. With your consent we also use analytics and (where applicable) advertising cookies. You can change your choices any time through your browser settings.
6. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe and for a short grace period afterwards. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted on request (subject to legal retention obligations).
7. International transfers
Animus Labs and its service providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, and the United States. Where required, we rely on UK / EU Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict our use of your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. UK and EU users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk). To exercise any right, email privacy@animuslabs.co.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and tell us promptly if you suspect your account has been compromised.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective" date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email.
